Week 9 DFI Reflections

Week 9 DFI Reflections

What did I learn that increased my understanding of Manaiakalani kaupapa

and pedagogy?

Overall in the last 8-9 weeks I feel I have increased my understanding of the

Manaiakalani kaupapa in many ways. I like how the teaching and learning is clearly

the umbrella mechanism to activate and sustain the pedagogy, which is essential for

learning, whānau engagement and device readiness. The constant reflection on how

well students/teachers

are doing in relation to the Learn Create Share pedagogy. The Learn/Create/Share

pedagogy moves us towards visible and ubiquitous learning, strong learner agency and

connectedness to grow my capabilities.

What did I learn that could improve my confidence, capability or workflow as a

professional?

Many around the use of all of the following: Docs, Meets, Slides, Sheets, Sites,

Forms,

Calendars and Groups. I had always used these tools to suit  the purposes of what

I needed them for and that's all. The last two months I have been able to extend

on my capabilities to use them more effectively. Good skills to have especially with

at home learning and being connected more effectively. Another lockdown could be

around the corner and our learning must go on!

The raised benefits of rewindable learning in many of the mahi we set up for

learners (students & staff) has been beneficial.

What did I learn that could be used with my learners, how could they use it.

I think every aspect of the Google Apps for Education can be used with

learners

depending on what app/tool is best for your desired outcome. In todays exam

there

were many scenarios where this was laid out and having the knowledge to

utilise it fully.

What did I learn that could improve my confidence, capability or workflow in my personal life?Greater increase in knowledge in how to do things more efficiently and effectively. The increased capability of connecting with people has been beneficial to my workflow.

Week 3 DFI Reflections

Week 3 DFI Reflections

  • What did I learn that could improve my confidence, capability or workflow as a professional?

I am familiar with Google Docs, Google Slides and Google Sheets. They correlate nicely with the Microsoft Office products we used for years and years. Google Drawings doesn’t fit into a nice, neat box like that. I enjoyed the creativity it provides.

  • What did I learn that could be used with my learners, how could they use it.

Google Drawings is a blank slate for students’ creativity. Find lots of tips, tricks and teaching ideas in this post. Google Drawings is the hidden gem in the core G Suite tools for education. I am familiar with Google Docs, Google Slides and Google Sheets. They correlate nicely with the Microsoft Office products we used for years and years. Google Drawings doesn’t fit into a nice, neat box like that.

DFI Week 8 Reflections

Week 8

What did I learn that increased my understanding of Manaiakalani kaupapa

and pedagogy

Today really made me reflect on our whanau/families especially the ones that

struggle day to day

financially. My understanding is that Initially this Manaiakalani kaupapa started with

schools in Auckland that had/have lower deciles and whanau that didn't have much

financial means.

Probably working long hours and not getting much money. Not having much money

took away options and options in life to do things hence less opportunities.Manaiakalani has gone a long way to crossing the divide of equity gap(at school) in

getting

students connected online and embedding the Learn/create/Share kaupapa.

What did I learn that could improve my confidence, capability or workflow

as a professional?

Gradually increasing and adding to my  knowledge has increase my capabilities  and

confidence in the google apps I use regularly such as doc, sheets, sites etc

What did I learn that could be used with my learners?

Coding seems to be a lot of fun for the students. Not really my cup of tea.

But it was the first time I actually gave it a go. So I can say I tried it and have a

little bit of knowledge. A little bit of computation.

Also I really enjoyed learning about MOTE last night at the staff session.

Whether you're at home or in the classroom, mote helps educators and students to stay connected. Students canleave voice notes, and react to teacher feedback and comments, to let teachers know

that they've understood and will action feedback, or that they need more help. What did I learn that could improve my confidence, capability or workflow in my

Week 7 DFI Reflections

What did I learn that increased my understanding of Manaiakalani kaupapa

and pedagogy?

Learn/Create/Share is not just a pedagogy that can be used specifically for

digital devices. This pedagogy can be applied to all learning in a variety of

different ways. However a digital device can give students a lot more access

to information and amplify their learning as well as share more.

I have been in school camp so I missed this session and there are

many ways to use Learn/Create/Share pedagogy without digital devices.

However being able to share our EOTC experience was a lot easier with social

media capabilities with whanau.

What did I learn that could improve my confidence, capability or workflow

as a professional?

Gradually increasing and adding to my  knowledge has increase my

capabilities  and confidence in the google apps I use regularly such as

doc, sheets, sites etc

What did I learn that could be used with my learners?

Identifying that students know the pedagogy of Learn/Create/Share is

not only used for using digital devices.

DFI Week 6 Reflections

What did I learn that increased my understanding of Manaiakalani kaupapa

and pedagogy?

A lot more about being connected and the positivity and benefits of being connected.

What did I learn that could improve my confidence, capability or workflow as a professional?

Today I found it really interesting looking at other peoples sites that they have set up.

What makes a good site and user friendly. I found that our current Team site that we are

using does have some good features which include Visible teaching and learning,

Multimodal content, Multitext content ie a variety of texts supporting the 'main' text, Ubiquitous access to learning - could the child learn by themselves eg from Starship Hospital?,

Connected (Blog links, school site), Are learners empowered (have agency) over data eg tracking sheets etc, Effective teaching practice eg NZC, learning progressions, NZQA etc

What did I learn that could be used with my learners?

I learned that the google site is generally very user friendly and a one stop shop for

teachers, students and parents. What did I learn that could improve my confidence, capability or workflow in my personal life?

Spam. Thanks for the tip. I have definitely had that issues.

DFI Week 5 Reflection

  • What did I learn that increased my understanding of Manaiakalani kaupapa and pedagogy?

  • I am gain a greater understanding of Visible Learning  and how it can enhanced  my role for as a teachers and they become evaluators of my teaching and other teachers I work with.  I also try to link it to some of John Hattie Visible Learning work and how teaching occurs when teachers see learning through the eyes of students and help them become their own teachers. I see rewindable learning and some of the google sites, mutli modle learning as avenues for this to happen. Lots of work still needed around this.

  • What did I learn that could improve my confidence, capability or workflow as a professional?

Once again using multi modle approaches makes learning rewindable and accessible to
all learners which can minimise some workload for teachers. More ability to engage parents as
well with their childs learning and make comments and feedback.
  • What did I learn that could be used with my learners?  Rewindable learning that is has

  • videos explaining what to do, stories they can go back to use, user friendly pages.

  • What did I learn that could improve my confidence, capability or workflow in my personal life?

  • Keep on keeping on!
