DFI Week 8 Reflections

Week 8

What did I learn that increased my understanding of Manaiakalani kaupapa

and pedagogy

Today really made me reflect on our whanau/families especially the ones that

struggle day to day

financially. My understanding is that Initially this Manaiakalani kaupapa started with

schools in Auckland that had/have lower deciles and whanau that didn't have much

financial means.

Probably working long hours and not getting much money. Not having much money

took away options and options in life to do things hence less opportunities.Manaiakalani has gone a long way to crossing the divide of equity gap(at school) in

getting

students connected online and embedding the Learn/create/Share kaupapa.

What did I learn that could improve my confidence, capability or workflow

as a professional?

Gradually increasing and adding to my  knowledge has increase my capabilities  and

confidence in the google apps I use regularly such as doc, sheets, sites etc

What did I learn that could be used with my learners?

Coding seems to be a lot of fun for the students. Not really my cup of tea.

But it was the first time I actually gave it a go. So I can say I tried it and have a

little bit of knowledge. A little bit of computation.

Also I really enjoyed learning about MOTE last night at the staff session.

Whether you're at home or in the classroom, mote helps educators and students to stay connected. Students canleave voice notes, and react to teacher feedback and comments, to let teachers know

that they've understood and will action feedback, or that they need more help. What did I learn that could improve my confidence, capability or workflow in my

personal life?

  1. Hi Stu,
Another great blog post, as always. I haven't heard of mote but I've just quickly googled it after reading your comments and it looks like a great tool, and perfect for my littlies too. Thanks for the tip.
    Best of luck with everything,
    Lindsay
